The kind where you imagine turning down a long driveway, past beautiful fencing and rolling green paddocks, toward a stable that feels like it has always been waiting for you.
There are horses grazing in the sunshine, the smell of fresh hay in the air, and a barn that somehow feels just as much like home to the humans as it does to the horses.
Maybe you have imagined it since you were eight years old. Maybe you are only just beginning to discover the horse world. Maybe you have spent years riding, owning, or working with horses, and you know exactly what your version of that dream looks like.
Mine has a name.

So, what exactly is Meadow Row Stables?
Meadow Row is an emerging Canadian equestrian lifestyle brand and community, with a long-term dream of becoming a boutique equestrian property in the Ottawa, Ontario, area.
At its heart, it is about the relationship between horses and the people who love them.
The early mornings. The muddy boots. The beautiful tack. The horse whose personality becomes your entire personality. The endless learning, the little victories, and the sheer amount of money we somehow convince ourselves is perfectly reasonable to spend on an animal that eats grass.
But it is also about something a little bigger.
I want Meadow Row to become a place where people feel welcome in the horse world, regardless of where they are starting.
A place where the aesthetic is beautiful, the standards are high, and nobody needs to prove they belong.
A place that celebrates the magic of horses without pretending that owning, riding, or caring for them is always easy.
And eventually, I hope, a real place where we can bring all of that to life.
We're building toward that dream in phases, and I'd love to bring you along.
Meet the human behind Meadow Row
Hi, I'm Nicole!
I'm a wife, a mom of three, a wedding photographer, an author, an entrepreneur, and a lifelong horse girl with a rather ambitious dream.
I've spent years building a creative business around beautiful experiences, meaningful connections, and the little details that make something feel special.
Now, I'm taking that same love of storytelling, thoughtful design, and community and pouring it into something I've dreamed about for a very long time.
Horses.
I'm not coming into this as a lifelong barn owner with decades of professional training experience. I'm coming into it as someone who loves horses, wants to learn everything she possibly can, and is determined to approach this dream with both enthusiasm and responsibility.
That means asking questions, learning from experienced horse people, understanding the realities of ownership, and accepting that a beautiful stable needs to be built on a whole lot more than a beautiful Pinterest board.
Although, for the record, the Pinterest board is spectacular.
Meadow Row is currently a dream in development, and that is exactly why I wanted to start sharing it now.
I don't want to appear one day with a finished property and pretend the journey to get there was effortless.
I want to share the beginning, too.
The research, the horses, the decisions, the learning curves, the business plans, and the inevitable moments where I wonder what on earth I've gotten myself into.
Because I suspect there are quite a few of you who understand the feeling.
The Meadow Row vision: One dream, several chapters
We're not trying to build everything overnight.
Meadow Row will grow in phases, with each chapter laying the groundwork for the next.
And although the dream is big, the intention is to build something thoughtful, sustainable, and genuinely good for both horses and humans.
Phase One: The online Meadow Row
Our starting point
Before Meadow Row becomes a physical destination, it begins here.
With an online community of people who love horses, beautiful things, and the idea of a life built a little closer to the land.
This first chapter is about establishing Meadow Row as an equestrian lifestyle brand and creating a space where we can learn, connect, and grow together.
Through the blog and our social channels, I'll be sharing the journey as it unfolds.
Expect conversations about horse ownership, riding, youngstock, training, equestrian style, barn design, property hunting, and the many practical realities of bringing a horse dream to life.
Some days, we might be discussing the actual cost of feeding a growing horse. Other days, we might be choosing the perfect shade of forest green for a saddle pad.
Both are important, obviously.
I also want Meadow Row to be a place where curiosity is encouraged.
You don't have to know every breed, understand every piece of tack, or have grown up riding competitively to enjoy this world.
We can learn together, while making room for the knowledge and experience of people who have spent their lives with horses.
The goal of Phase One is simple: build the community before we build the barn.
Phase Two: Bringing Meadow Row into everyday life
The next chapter is about turning the equestrian lifestyle we love into something tangible.
Part of that journey may include welcoming our own horses into the family and sharing the experience of ownership, training, and growing alongside them.
I'm especially interested in the development of young horses and what it really takes to raise a healthy, confident, well-adjusted equine partner.
There is something incredibly special about the idea of knowing a horse from its earliest years and watching its personality, confidence, and abilities develop over time.
But young horses are not projects to rush, and this journey deserves patience, professional guidance, and a healthy respect for how much there is to learn.
I'll be sharing the practical realities alongside the exciting milestones.
This is also where I hope to begin developing Meadow Row's own collection of equestrian goods.
Think thoughtful design, beautiful everyday essentials, and products that feel equally at home in the tack room and your everyday life.
Our signature forest green will naturally be making an appearance.
The long-term vision includes carefully considered equestrian apparel, accessories, and branded goods that reflect the Meadow Row aesthetic without compromising on practicality.
A brand built around real horse life, rather than just the idea of it.
Phase Three: Finding our forever home
This is the chapter I probably spend an unreasonable amount of time daydreaming about.
Land.
Paddocks.
A beautiful barn.
A place where you can hear horses nickering in the morning and watch the sun go down over the fields in the evening.
The goal is to eventually establish Meadow Row on our own equestrian property in the greater Ottawa area.
But I don't want to purchase a piece of land simply because it looks beautiful.
The property needs to work for the horses first.
That means appropriate turnout, safe fencing, suitable footing, reliable water, sensible pasture management, and infrastructure that makes daily care practical throughout our Canadian seasons.
The property also needs to make financial sense.
We're approaching this as both a personal dream and a potential business, which means working through the realities of financing, construction, operating expenses, maintenance, and long-term sustainability.
The vision is not to build the biggest facility possible.
It is to create something beautiful, manageable, and exceptionally well thought out.
A property where every detail has a purpose, and where the horses' quality of life is never sacrificed for appearances.
Phase Four: The Meadow Row Stables experience
This is the ultimate vision.
A boutique equestrian facility that offers exceptional horse care and a genuinely wonderful experience for the people who keep their horses there.
I imagine a smaller, carefully managed boarding stable rather than an enormous commercial operation.
A place where horses are known as individuals and owners feel confident that their animals are receiving attentive, knowledgeable care.
But I also want to rethink what the human side of a boarding stable can feel like.
Imagine arriving at the barn after a long day and walking into a beautiful, welcoming space.
A comfortable owner lounge. A clean bathroom and changing area. Thoughtfully designed tack storage. A place to make a coffee, catch up with friends, or sit quietly and watch the horses.
Somewhere you actually want to spend time.
Not because the chandeliers are impressive or the coffee machine is expensive, but because the entire experience has been designed with care.
I want Meadow Row to feel like a little equestrian retreat.
A place where owners can build friendships, enjoy their horses, and feel part of something.
There will be a strong emphasis on horse welfare, professional care, clear communication, safety, and a supportive barn culture.
The precise facilities, services, and boarding options will depend on the property, the business plan, and the expertise we bring on board.
The dream is ambitious, but the details need to be earned.
And when that day comes, I want the physical stable to feel like a natural extension of the community we're beginning to create right now.
Who is Meadow Row for?
Meadow Row is for the horse people.
The ones who have horses, the ones who used to have horses, and the ones who have been dreaming about their first horse for as long as they can remember.
It's for the English riders and the Western riders.
The competitive riders, the trail riders, and the people who are perfectly happy spending an afternoon grooming their horse and doing absolutely nothing else.
It's for the adults returning to riding after years away.
The beginners who have a thousand questions but aren't quite sure who to ask.
The experienced horse owners who know that there is always something new to learn.
And the people who simply love the equestrian lifestyle, even if owning a horse isn't currently part of their reality.
You don't need a particular riding background, an expensive horse, or a closet full of designer riding clothes to belong here.
I love beautiful things, and Meadow Row will absolutely have a strong aesthetic.
But beautiful doesn't have to mean exclusive.
We can have excellent taste without making people feel like they need permission to be in the room.
That's the kind of community I want to create.
The things that matter to us
As Meadow Row grows, there are a few principles I want to keep at the centre of everything we do.
Horse welfare comes first. A beautiful barn means very little if the horses living in it aren't healthy, comfortable, and properly cared for. Their physical and behavioural needs will always take priority over aesthetics or convenience.
Learning never stops. I don't believe that loving horses makes someone an expert. Good horsemanship requires education, experience, humility, and a willingness to change your mind when you learn something new.
Community over competition. There is room for people with different backgrounds, interests, disciplines, and ambitions. You don't have to ride at a certain level or own a particular type of horse to deserve kindness and respect.
Quality over excess. Whether we're discussing equestrian products, boarding services, or the property itself, the goal is to make intentional decisions. More expensive does not automatically mean better.
Build it properly, even if it takes longer. I would rather see Meadow Row grow slowly and sustainably than rush into something that compromises our standards or the care of our horses.
These aren't just ideas for a future business.
They're the foundation I want us to build on from the beginning.
Why share the journey before the stable exists?
Because I think the beginning matters.
We often see the finished version of someone's dream.
The beautiful barn. The perfectly groomed horse. The thoughtfully curated tack room. The morning coffee overlooking the paddocks.
What we don't always see is everything that happened before it.
The research. The saving. The compromises. The unexpected expenses. The decisions that didn't work out and the lessons that followed.
And sometimes, the courage it takes to admit that you have a lot to learn.
I want Meadow Row to show that part, too.
There will be exciting announcements and lovely photographs, but there will also be practical conversations about money, responsibility, horse care, and what it actually takes to build an equestrian life.
Not every plan will unfold exactly as imagined, and the timeline may change as we learn more.
That's part of doing this properly.
I want the Meadow Row community to be able to look back one day and say, I remember when this was just a little dream on the internet.
And perhaps, for some of you, watching this journey will inspire you to take the first step toward a dream of your own.

We're not yet a physical boarding stable, and we don't have a grand opening date to announce.
What we do have is a name, a direction, and a whole lot of enthusiasm for what comes next.
This is the beginning of something I hope will grow into a beautiful equestrian community, a thoughtfully designed brand, and eventually a place we can call home.
